HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO TEST BRAKE FLUID?

Product Launch

Each product (brake fluid) needs to comply with the FMVSS 116 Standard before it can be sold in the U.S. market. It’s the law.

Quality Testing

The risk of contamination is always present during brake fluid manufacturing. It is recommended to perform quality testing regularly to ensure your product complies with FMVSS 116.

Get Recertified

To be featured in AMECA’s Compliance List of Automotive Safety Components, the product must be tested to comply with AMECA’s requirements and retested every three years.

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PERFORMS RANDOM TESTS OF BRAKE FLUID EVERY YEAR

What is a DOT’s routine random test? U.S. Department of Transportation randomly selects brake fluid cans from store shelves to test every year. A product that doesn’t comply with FMVSS 116 may be recalled. Along with physical tests, DOT also evaluates the brake fluid brand for label and packaging requirements.

What may trigger a failed test?

SUPPLY CHAIN ERROR

A change or decrease in quality of raw materials may negatively affect the quality of the final product.

HUMAN ERROR

A person’s mistake during manufacturing may negatively affect product quality, which will result in a failed test.

POOR STORAGE CONDITIONS

Brake fluid may pick up moisture and contaminants due to poor storage conditions on-site.

POOR TRANSPORTATION CONDITIONS

Poor handling during transportation and some environmental factors may lead to a decline in product quality.

PACKAGING
ERROR

Failure to meet the DOT’s labeling requirements may lead to a recall, while possible container contamination or double seal failure may lead to a decline in product quality.

ENSURE BRAKE FLUID QUALITY WITH REGULAR TESTING TO AVOID RECALLS

It is recommended for brake automotive manufacturers to monitoring manufacturing process and perform regular product quality control inspections to ensure their continued compliance with the industry and government standards. Additional third-party validation testing of brake fluid could provide the greater quality assurance as multiple risks hide along the supply chain and production stages.

WHY IT IS BETTER TO AVOID A PRODUCT RECALL

  1. Protect your brand’s reputation
  2. Avoid financial losses
  3. Protect your company from liability and legal action
  4. Maintain your customer loyalty
